History:

 

The city of Jamshedpur had been founded by the late Jamshedji Nusserwanji Tata. This city is also referred to as "Tata." The city is located in the East Singhbhum district on the Chota Nagpur plateau and is surrounded by the beautiful Dalma Hills. The rivers Subarnrekha and Kharkai provide water to the city. Jamshedpur was also the first planned city in India that had been nurtured by the Tata Steel group. The aim of building this city was to make a steel plant here. The construction of the city was made keeping in mind wide streets planted with shady trees. It is also the only city in India without a municipality and the conservation and maintenance is entirely assumed by Tata Steel.

 

Geography:

 

Jamshedpur is located at 22.8° N 86.18° E and has an average elevation of 135 meters. The city is located in a hilly region and has an uneven terrain is quite uneven. 

 

Demographics:

 

As per the 2001 India census, Jamshedpur had a population of 1.1 million with 53% males and 47% females. The average literacy rate of Jamshedpur is 82%.

 

Climate:

 

The city has a sub tropical climate with warm summers and pleasant winters. The annual rainfall in this region is about 1200 mm with monsoons bringing the maximum rain in the months of June to August. 

 

Economy:

 

The city has become the first private Iron and Steel Company of India and the sixth largest in the world. The city is also known as "Tata Nagar" due to presence of the TATA group. The city is rich in minerals, including iron ore, manganese bauxite, coal, and lime. The city also has some of the big corporate houses in the country. Industries are the main source of income here various iron and steel, truck manufacturing, tinplate production, cement and many more medium scale industries. The city is also never affected from the bandhs or political disturbances in the area and hence the economy of the city is growing rapidly.

 

Education:

 

The city has some of the most esteemed technological institutions of the country.

There are about 183 schools and 13 colleges here. The XLRI or Xavier Labor Relations Institute, National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur and other prestigious schools are located here.

 

Tourism:

 

There are various places to see in and near Jamshedpur. There are various markets and showrooms in the city like the Sakchi Bazaar, Kharangajhar, Amar Market and many other places. Other attractions here include the  Jubilee Park, Tata Steel Zoological Park, Jubilee Nicco Amusement Park, Dimna Lake, the Rivers Meet, Hudco Lake, Sir Dorabji Tata Park, Keenan Stadium, Russi Mody Centre of Excellence and Ghatsila.

 

Culture:

 

The city has multi lingual groups and religions and the city itself is cosmopolitan in nature. Festivals like Chhath, Durga Puja, Deepavali, Holi, Makar Sankranti, Christmas, and Id-ul-fitr are celebrated here.

 

Transportation:

 

The city is well connected with regular flights to Kolkata. Jamshedpur is an important railway junction and is connected to the major Indian cities. The city is well connected through roads also.
